Subaru has revealed a new generation of Impreza for the 2010 model year, Subaru Impreza XV. The XV offers the Impreza’s original and distinctive symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (SAWD) driveability in all-weather road conditions which is packaged in a new exterior.
Developed on the basis of the Impreza 5-door model, the Impreza XV employs a stiffer suspension. A strut-type suspension system was adopted for the front and a double wishbone suspension system for the rear. The Impreza XV is also accentuated by claddings around wheel arches, an newly designed front grill and bumper, and thicker rear spoiler and roof rails. For the interior design, the Impreza XV was differentiated from the regular Impreza model.
Impreza XV is fitted with Subaru boxer 2.0-liter DOHC NA. The engine is enhanced by the optimized intake system, equal length constant pulsation exhaust system, secondary air system, and reduced friction. The exhaust emission control performance of the Impreza XV is compliant with Euro 5 standards.
To support the Subaru boxer diesel 2.0-liter DOHC turbocharged engine, Impreza XV is fitted with an aluminum alloy cylinder block with metal matrix composite journal. To obtain ideal diesel combustion, the stroke was extended by 11 mm and the bore was shortened by 6 mm compared to the SUBARU BOXER four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine (EJ20). The bore pitch was shortened to 98.4 mm, which is similar to that of SUBARU BOXER 6-cylinder petrol engine, while the petrol engine (EJ20) has 113.0 mm.
Dealing with the drivetrain, the Subaru Impreza XV features include among others the engine mounting system, symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system, active torque split AWD (E-4AT), centre differential AWD with viscous LSD (5MT with dual range, 6MT), electronic control 4-speed automatic transmission with SPORTSHIFT (SS E-4AT) (2.0R AT model), SPORTSHIFT E-4AT, dual-range 5-speed manual transmission (2.0R MT model), 6-speed manual transmission for Subaru Boxer Diesel (2.0D model), 205/55R16+6.5J aluminum wheels, and a flat tyre repair kit (optional for 2.0D model).
